"Behold the Handmaid of the Lord"
St. Mary's Orthodox Syrian Church, Nalanchira, is a vibrant parish of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church under the Thiruvananthapuram Diocese. Rooted in the apostolic tradition of St. Thomas the Apostle, we are a community of faith, fellowship, and service.
Rooted in the ancient tradition of the Apostle Thomas, the parish traces its beginnings to a chapel established to serve the Orthodox students and staff of the nearby Mar Ivanios College. Governed by the Church Constitution of 1934, the parish continues to uphold the doctrines and traditions of the Oriental Orthodox faith.
Words of guidance and blessing
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with our beloved parish family. As we journey together in faith, may St. Mary's Nalanchira continue to be a beacon of God's love and truth in our community.
Together we journey in faith as one family of God. Our parish is a community of prayer, service, and devotion — united under the grace of our Lord. May the blessings of St. Mary, our patroness, guide and protect each family of our beloved parish.

Faith, History & Leadership
An apostolic community rooted in the faith of St. Thomas
St. Mary's Orthodox Syrian Church, Nalanchira, is part of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church — one of the oldest Christian communities in the world, tracing its origins to the mission of Apostle St. Thomas in India in 52 AD.
The church is Oriental Orthodox in faith, following the West Syriac liturgical tradition. The St. Thomas Christians are popularly known as the Malankara Nazranis.
Established as an independent parish on 26 May 1985, our community has grown across six wards, united in worship, fellowship, and service.
"My Lord and My God"

A tradition rooted in the Apostolic faith since 52 AD
The Incredulity of Thomas — our apostolic heritage
The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church is the offspring of the Mission of Apostle St. Thomas in India. It is Oriental Orthodox in faith, following the West Syriac liturgical tradition. In the early centuries, the Nazranis became an integral part of Kerala society, honoured with unique royal privilege.
Through the Synod of Diamper of 1599, the Portuguese subjugated the Nazranis. But in 1653, the Malankara Pally Yogam unanimously severed all relations with Rome — enacted by the historic Oath of the Koonan Kurishu on 3 January 1653.
In 1912, a Catholicate was established in India, making Malankara an autocephalous Church. H.H. Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, the ninth Catholicos, is enthroned on the apostolic throne of St. Thomas.
